Melatonin is a hormone secreted by the pineal gland located in the brain that is involved in the sleep cycle. It is produced in high concentrations in the evening and low concentrations during the day which helps maintain the sleep-wake cycle. Low melatonin secretion can cause sleep disorders such as insomnia, difficulty falling asleep or sleeping too lightly. Melatonin supplementation is, therefore, a good solution to help restore restful sleep by helping to regulate sleep patterns and improve sleep quality. 1
